Salon de KANBAYASHI is a long-established tea shop in Uji with a history of 450 years, founded in the Eiroku era (around 1560). It is said that Uji tea began in the early 13th century when the monk Myoe Takaben of Tsugao Kozanji Temple opened a tea garden in Uji. During the Muromachi period, the shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga established a tea garden in Uji called ``Uji Seven Famous Gardens,'' and under his patronage, Uji tea developed.
