Product Information

It is said to have originated from Nanban sweets that were introduced to Hirado, Nagasaki during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and production and sales began in 1673 during the Edo period by Riemon Matsuya, the first Matsuya company.

During the Enpo era, Matsuya presented chicken and egg somen noodles to Mitsuyuki Kuroda, the third lord of the Fukuoka domain, and since then has become the official confectionery shop of the Kuroda domain, and Matsuya has a history of about 340 years.

Each piece is carefully made by craftsmen using carefully selected materials and traditional manufacturing methods. The bright yellow color and simple sweetness with a subtle egg flavor will take you back to distant history.

Brand Story

It is said that the first head of the Matsuya family, Riemon Matsuya, was taught the method of making chicken egg somen when he visited Dejima in Nagasaki.

Riemon Matsuya later returned to Hakata and began manufacturing and selling chicken egg somen noodles in 1673, the first year of the Enpo period (1603-1868) during the Edo period.

During the Enpo era, we presented chicken egg somen to Mitsuyuki Kuroda, the lord of the Fukuoka domain, and since then we have become the official confectionery business of the Kuroda domain.
